Your comment is awaiting moderation

I know, its a feature that stops people hating on your blog from going public. YouTube is like the ghetto area of the internet; in there, anything goes. Rebecca Black knows what I’m talking about. Am I right? Am I right?!

Ok that was messed up. Sorry.

I am definitely against bullying of all kinds, and I’m all for moderating comments.. but I always feel awkward when I leave a short comment on one of your blogs and it gives me that message. It almost feels like leaving a really small tip at a restaurant and then making eye contact with the server. It is just uncomfortable for everyone.

Of course sometimes people feel like its Christmas with those emails that tell us that a comment is waiting to get moderated, so we sit there on our desks with our cup of coffee and grab the mouse while deciding if certain comments have the requirements to be on our blogs. Then we feel all important when we get to click “Approve.”

I felt so strange, that I started digging through the setting here on WordPress and found out how to remove it. In fact, if you log out and check out this blog, you’ll probably see a little note somewhere that says that nothing, not even a comment, is required to comment on any post in this place (just go with it, guys). Maybe I should go back to moderating comments though..

I miss clicking “Approve”.

  1. I’ll be the first to admit I’m not tech-savvy in the slightest. I’m actually tired of moderating comments. I need to figure out how to disable this feature.

    • Hi Sabatino!

It’s not too bad, just go to your Dashboard (sometimes called your “Blog Admin” page), go to Settings, then click on Discussion Settings. The options are listed there in little check boxes. Let me know how that goes 🙂

The one time I disabled this feature, anyone who was signed up for comment updates on my blog got an earful-(eyeful?) from a pissed off male reader who took Angie’s Lesson #5 waaaayyy too personally. It went something like “Screw you f*$%*^ C*$& H*# B*#&# in H#$%’.

  4. I wanted to comment just to see how it felt to not see that awaiting moderation thingy.
Also, I dig your stuff on this site. Thought I’d throw that out there too, just in case that approve button is still hanging on

    • Hey sorry it took me a while to find the comment, but I’m here!

Thank you and thanks a bunch for reading!

  8. My comments go to the Spam Folder. If, after sevral comments nothing changes, then I unsubscribe. I have to assume my comments are not wanted.

    January 23, 2013
    • I wonder why it does that, seriously.. didn’t that happen to you around here for a while also?

  9. If followers comment on my site, usually the comments are instantly approved, but if someone writes something that is a red flag to WP, they might send it to my spam folder, and then I decide whether or not to publish it. I’m okay with that.

  10. My site has a mind of its own. Sometimes it lets anything through (Viagra Spam messages typed in Chinese?). Other times it wants me to moderate my mom’s innocent “I’m really proud of you writing all the written things you write” messages. Either way, I’m just happy to get a comment 🙂

    • Haha oh, spam. I once got a very informative essay about some islands off an Asian coast. I read the whole report.
