50. Sneezing

Oh no.

Here it comes. . .

Hold your nose. Close your eyes. It’s coming from inside your nose somewhere up by your eyes. It feels like your nose is being tickled. Ah! You can’t hold it any longer. O.K. it’s gone. Pheew . . . Uh oh, here it comes again! Hold your nose! Close your eyes, raise your eyebrows, make a funny face —hurry!

Oh well, you sneezed. So what’s the big deal? The following things can make sneezing very awkward:

Sneezing at an inappropriate time- You can’t do much about sneezing at the wrong times. Imagine someone would sneeze during a suspenseful movie right when the girl is about to encounter the murderer and the music has stopped to leave you in dead silence? And to make it even worse, some people don’t even hint at the fact that they’re about to sneeze and just comes out loud and unexpected. It freaks others out every time.

Some people don’t cover their mouth and spray everybody around them. Suddenly millions of germs are flying around the room screaming out “I’m free! I’m free!” looking for someone else to get sick. Oh and having someone’s saliva sprayed on you doesn’t feel that great.

Saliva smells sometimes, and it can be pretty distinct. It smells like. .  well, it smells like spit. If somebody sneezes while you’re in a car with the windows rolled up you might be able to smell it even if the person sneezes into a tissue. Nobody ever brings it up, and I’ve always wondered why. I mean, I’m not the only one that can smell a sneeze, right?

Boogers– They show up when you’re sick. Slimy little green friends make their presence known by surprise when you sneeze sometimes, and they’re not very shy either; sometimes they come out flying across the room and stick to a wall. Or the back of someone’s head!

Besides that, sneezing is no big deal. And even though I’ve heard stories that you can sneeze out your brain, that your heart stops when you sneeze, and even that a sneeze can kill you. . I guess I’m still not scared of it because I still sneeze. I can’t help it!

But hey, sneezing is funny sometimes, too. I’ve heard “Waaa choo!“,  “Tch . . pheew!”, “Ahh . . tsh.” and a bunch of other kinds! It’s awesome!

Can you spell out phonetically the sound you make when you sneeze?

Me? “Agh . .shoo!”

[Thanks Meghna_N]

Atchooo! Hahaha. This is funny! Awkward, but sometimes people just make funny sound when they sneeze (without boogers, of course) and you can’t help but laugh!

  3. If you rub your eyes when you feel a sneeze coming one it does often stop the sneeze! Sometimes you have to keep rubbing for a minute or so, but it works well for me. Unless I am holding something in my hands. Especially if it’s coffee. That can be… problematic! 🙂

Ewe!! I thought I was the only one who thought that sneezes can smell! yuck yuck yuck!! It’s not even a horrible smell, but for me it is so nasty that it makes it 10x worse. Has anyone held a sneeze until it went back in? Such a bad feeling ;(

By the way, some people just can’t sneeze once. With my dad, a single sneeze comes with an additional 30!

    • I know how you must’ve felt.. seriously. You’re welcome, my friend. You are not crazy for being able to smell sneeze because that would make me crazy as well and I’m 87% sure that i am not.

Oh the memories.. I used to cover my nose when someone sneezed, and when I’d tell them why, they would look at me funny. Haha!

1 time i was playing computer and my mom was on the other computer doing work, then my mom sneezed 3 times facing towards me. Her sneeze was wet sounding like “HA-Eschhooo!” i felt this spray of spit and it was disgusting. Then i smelled it, it was horrible and her sneeze smelled so strong i didn’t want to be in the room anymore. I asked her why is there suddenly a musty smell. She replied, “Sorry it was just my sneeze. Whenever you sneeze make sure you cover your mouth unlike me i sprayed.” But after these months i hear her when she sneezes she doesn’t cover her mouth and it bothers me, all the germs and that smell. Please help me what should i do?

I usually don’t cover when sneezing and i didn’t know that sneezes actually smell. The first time i realized it was when my husband was at work and me and the children were in the car. I sneezed about 3 times and sprayed a fine mist of my own spit. Ew. i smelled a musty smell and the smell filled up the whole car, my children could smell it as well. They asked me what that smell was and well i thought it was my sneezes. I told them roll down the window to get the smell out and that was pretty horrible for me and a bit embarrassing. Because my children in school, they write about what happened yesterday and all those things. They might mention my sneeze. So i researched and found this… anyway thanks.
I’ll cover my mouth next time =)
